BOOK REVIEW: Once Upon A Princess duet by Deborah A Bailey | Absolve by Shea Swain

This weekend I read three middle-of-the-road romance stories (1 was a DNF) before I picked up these two and I'm so glad I did.

The Once Upon A Princess Duet by Deborah A Bailey (fantasy romance) broke the reading funk and gave me a warm and tingly feeling as I read the stories. These are pure romance and the brilliance is in the simplicity of the storylines. The reader immediately falls into the fantasy setting and cheers for the characters happy endings. Both stories delivered what I needed, but the first one, Heart of Stone, has to be my favourite. If you're looking for low angst, heart-warming books with a touch of heat, you won't go wrong with this collection.

I was on a mission to reduce my never-ending TBR pile so I jumped on Absolve by Shea Swain (contemporary romance, interracial) pretty much straight away. This one has been on my TBR for a while. Right from the opening chapter you know this is going to be a high angst emotional rollercoaster when the lead female's kid brother is injured in an accident. We fast-forward six years to his funeral where Nisa and Trenton meet for the first time. Trenton is Nisa's late brother's friend. I'm about 28% in and they are still at the back and forth will-they-won't-they stage, although they've had their first kiss. It's engaging so far and I'm enjoying it.
